Reaching New Heights Underground

When Designing A Horizontal Directional Bore:

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you plan a directional drill project.

Entry Angle: 8 - 18 Degrees From Horizontal

Exit Angle: 8 - 12 Degrees From Horizontal

Drilling Radius:

  • Steel Pipe - Diameter In Inches Times 100 Will Equal The Preferred Drilling Radius In Feet
  • Plastic Pipe - Diameter In Inches Times 40 Will Equal The Shortest Drilling Radius In Feet

(The Plastic Pipe Formula May Be Used For Small Pipes, 8" And Smaller But May Be Limited By Drill And Drill Pipe Limits)

Typical Workspace (Bird's Eye View):

  • Plan your bore away from other utilities and locate all utilities nearby.
  • Plan your workspace to optimize production.
  • Have several soil borings drilled at your location to determine the subsurface conditions and plan the location of the product being installed.
