Miller The Driller has been referred to as "The Midwest's Most Boring Contractor" for well over 50 years now. Beginning in 1948, Gene Miller founded a company that would become a fully equipped, full-service underground construction company that's on target, on time — performing our work accurately, safely and efficiently.

It all started with Gene's vast experience in underground construction work — from utility work to cross country cable work. Today, Miller The Driller has the manpower and machinery to handle just about any type of job. Service specialties include all aspects of trenchless technology and other areas as well:

Meeting The "Biggest Job" Requirements

Miller The Driller has pioneered many of the effective underground techniques that are in widespread use today. Customers regularly call on us for the biggest and toughest of projects. Under the guidance of the second generation of family management, President, Kris Young is firmly committed to excellence not only at Miller The Driller but within the industry itself. Kris has served in various capacities in a number of professional organizations and brings both commitment to customers and to the industry to each Miller The Driller project. Brandon Young serves as a regional vice president of the Nationa Utility Contractor Association. She believes that sharing expertise for benefit of the customer — even when that means sharing ideas with competitors — will better serve customers and strengthen the industry as a whole. This commitment is also held by Brandon Young, representing the third generation of family involvement in the company. Kris, Brandon and Gene have all been active members and participants in AGC and NUCA and have held leadership roles in both organizations. Kris has served as the Chair of Municipal Utilities Division of AGC of America (2002); AGC Trenchless Technology Chair (1997-2000); and President of AGC of Iowa (1995). Brandon has served as the President of NUCA of Iowa (2003) and as Trenchless Technology Chair (2003).

Experienced employees working with quality machinery help assure that jobs are completed not only accurately, but also as efficiently and smoothly as possible. Continual safety training helps assure performance you can depend on. Miller The Driller maintains the highest standards for its safety program. This has resulted in Miller The Driller being pre-approved for pipelines, plant work and railroads. Our commitment to safety is comprehensive — from job training to our certified drug policy.

A close working relationship with our employees results in minimal turnover among key people within our company. Our employees have an average of 10 years experience with Miller The Driller. Our field supervisors have worked in every capacity within the company to give each supervisor a complete working knowledge of the trenchless methods Miller The Driller provides. All of our employees, especially our drill operators, go through extensive training in safety; operating procedures and steering control. Brandon Young and Dan Greiman are always available for immediate response to the needs of a project by phone or onsite. To assure fast and accurate communication our phones are always answered. No voice mail or answering services to delay your requests.

Our auger boring, pipe ramming, extrusion drilling and tunneling technologies are state-of-the-art. If you need to put something underground in diameters from 2" to 147" or more, we have the equipment to put it there right!

Miller The Driller is a fully networked company allowing for efficient, accurate communication and quality control. Our office procedures as well as field operations are fast, efficient, and accurate!

In our fully equipped shop, we continually maintain and repair equipment to make sure it's always in top operating condition. The Equipment Manager works full-time to accomplish this goal.

While Miller rigs and crews have worked extensively in 28 states, most of our work is completed within 600 miles of Des Moines. We cover a lot of territory — no project is ever too far away.

In most cases, we can be packed up and on the way to your site surprisingly fast — whether it's 20 miles away or 1,000 miles away.
