When Designing A Horizontal Auger Bore:

PIT BORING BOX - END VIEW

If additional plates are needed, they must be hauled on a separate load.

Along with project considerations such as soil type and pipe size, the bore pit must be part of the overall design. The typical pit for bores up to 10 feet deep is shown in the diagram below. When a pit is deeper, it is necessary to install a pit box for the protection of workers and equipment.

As clear a "bore path" as possible helps reduce risk for all parties concerned. Utilities that cannot be accurately located will need to be exposed if they are to be missed during the boring process.

Thorough surveys and site investigations, while essential to all projects, are even more so to below ground activities where the risk of encountering something unforeseen is at it's highest.

Please call for exact pit specifications for your job.

Typical pit:

  • 38 feet long
  • 10 or 12 feet wide
  • 2 feet 8 inches below center of casing
  • 6 inches of clean rock inside bottom
  • Pit to be OSHA safe and sloped accordingly
